Target Tutoring’s Core Curriculum I will help students develop the skills and confidence needed to maximize performance on the SAT. Our small class sizes allow substantial individualized attention. Core Curriculum I comprises four courses:
- SAT Wordsmith Workshop™
- SAT/ACT Core Grammar
- SAT Doc Class™
- SAT Math Intensive or SAT Math Fundamentals
The SAT Wordsmith Workshop™ represents the perfect start to SAT prep. In three sessions of three hours each, this course provides students with the vocabulary skills and the confidence needed to navigate the Reading, Writing, and Essay sections of the SAT. The cost is $750.
The follow-up course, SAT/ACT Core Grammar, expands upon the lessons embedded in the SAT Wordsmith Workshop by providing a comprehensive approach to English grammar. SAT/ACT Core Grammar exploits Target Tutoring’s proprietary method of sentence diagramming to help students better grasp the underlying anatomy of complex sentences. In addition, innovative tie-ins with the SAT Doc Class will deepen students’ comprehension of complex texts. Of course, a firmer grip on grammar will enhance students’ own writing skills. Given the overlap between the SAT and ACT grammar sections, this course will benefit students on both tests. It will also give students a glimpse into the stylistic differences between the tests. SAT/ACT Core Grammar takes place over three sessions of three hours each and costs $600.
The SAT Doc Class™ focuses primarily on helping students fathom less accessible texts that feature on the SAT. We delve into seminal historical documents such as the Declaration of Independence, George Washington’s Farewell Address, and Thomas Jefferson’s First Inaugural Address as well as political treatises by Edmund Burke, Mary Wollstonecraft, Henry David Thoreau, Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Martin Luther King, Jr. We also examine excerpts from literary works by authors such as Charlotte Brontë, Jane Austen, and Aldous Huxley. The SAT Doc Class presents Target Tutoring’s strategies for the Evidence-Based Reading section of the SAT, including our proprietary Couplets™ method. In the summer, the SAT Doc Class takes place over five three-hour sessions and costs $1100; during the school year, an abbreviated version of the course takes place over four three-hour sessions and costs $850.
The SAT Math Intensive includes a review of key geometry and algebra topics, along with select trigonometry, pre-calculus, and statistics concepts. We will also introduce techniques and strategies to help students make the most of their math knowledge. The SAT Math Intensive takes place over five three-hour sessions and costs $1100.
